Welcome to our Rowan Class

This is where we will share our news and topics for the school year.

Autumn 2021:

Reading

In Rowan class, our reading focus will be on developing our answers to inference questions by looking at evidence in texts to support our thinking but we shall also be looking at developing our vocabulary and answering prediction, retrieval and summarising questions. We shall be studying texts, both fiction and non-fiction that link to the Saxons and Vikings .

Writing

Our writing this term will be based around the story ‘The Cobbler and The Dragon’. Through this text, the children will be introduced to the individual skills that they need to develop in their writing and we shall also look at developing character and setting. Developing handwriting will be important this term.

Maths

In maths, we shall be focusing on place value and skills for addition and subtraction. Throughout the term we shall also revisit previously studied units through our daily ‘Fluent in 5’. Every week, we shall be practising a different times table with the children answering 60 mixed questions (multiplying and dividing) in 5 minutes in order to increase their fluency and speed of recall.
